Prevent Antivirus and DLP Tools from Impacting Poly Lens Desktop Performance

Introduction

Poly Lens Desktop is a comprehensive software solution designed to manage, monitor, and enhance the performance of HP Poly devices. It is crucial to ensure that this tool operates seamlessly to maximize productivity and device functionality. As the solution leverages both real-time connections to the HP Cloud and performs critical updates to the connected peripherals it is recommended that the application be excluded from antivirus, reliability monitoring and data loss prevention scanning by third-party applications.

Why Exclusion is Necessary

It has been observed that these tools can degrade the Poly Lens Desktop app and create system contention. These conflicts can result in software malfunctions, reduced performance, high CPU and memory utilization, and false positives in security alerts. As these applications routinely lock access to the executables utilized by Poly Lens Desktop, this may result in failed updates to HP devices, potentially rendering them unusable. Given the importance of uninterrupted communication and device management in professional environments, it is essential to mitigate these risks.

Necessary Files for Exclusion

Note: The list of files will be modified over time and customers will be advised when additional executables for device firmware updates are added, or needed exclusion through documentation on this page. Updates to this documentation will be communicated through the application version release notes.

Requirements for Poly Lens Room

Poly Lens Room provides a customized installation of Poly Lens Desktop that is specifically designed for the Microsoft Teams Room on Windows and Zoom Room on Windows Appliances. As both ecosystem providers provide guidance that installations of anti-virus and DLP applications will lead to unpredictable results and void support. HP does not provide explicit exclusionary guidance for this installation. This does not imply that issues cannot occur, rather that installation in conjunction with this deployment type will likely lead to unpredictable results and further positions the solution out of vendor support.

Conclusion

These exclusions are recommendations, and interaction of these applications with Poly Lens Desktop is entirely dependent on what other applications are installed, how they are configured, and what they are doing.

If an organization excludes these files from active scanning, HP recommends that excluded files be scanned using scheduled scans during non-business or off-peak hours. Additionally, the integrity of the excluded files and folders should always be maintained.
